The Good Kind of Distress

Distress that drives us to God does that. It turns us around. It gets us back in the way of salvation. We never regret that kind of pain. But those who let distress drive them away from God are full of regrets, end up on a deathbed of regrets.

This is Real Life Right Now

The below is a LONG verse but I tell you people it is so worth the read! I read it and was just amazed at how real and true God’s word still is today! This is exactly what our world needs to hear right now! We need to be more kind and loving. We need to not use our freedom in Christ for evil but for good. Such powerful verses!

P.S I am writing today’s blog from my new computer! I haven’t had a computer for YEARS! I’m super excited :+)

It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom. If you bite and ravage each other, watch out—in no time at all you will be annihilating each other, and where will your precious freedom be then?

It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on. This isn’t the first time I have warned you, you know. If you use your freedom this way, you will not inherit God’s kingdom.

What actually took place is this: I tried keeping rules and working my head off to please God, and it didn’t work. So I quit being a “law man” so that I could be God’s man. Christ’s life showed me how, and enabled me to do it. I identified myself completely with him. Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that. Is it not clear to you that to go back to that old rule-keeping, peer-pleasing religion would be an abandonment of everything personal and free in my relationship with God? I refuse to do that, to repudiate God’s grace. If a living relationship with God could come by rule-keeping, then Christ died unnecessarily.

REJOICE

Yesterday wasn’t a good day. Everyone in our family had attitude and we were rude with each other . It’s was just a crappy day. Finally I just looked at the boys and said. You know that even though we having been yelling at you all most of they day and argeuing with each other that we still love you both and each other very very very much right?

How wonderful that we have the same promise from our heavenly father? No matter how bad the day we can rejoice in his love and the hope we find in him.

Work for Sin

But now that you’ve found you don’t have to listen to sin tell you what to do, and have discovered the delight of listening to God telling you, what a surprise! A whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way! Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life , eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master.

I love the message version of this verse. Sin is easy, but you don’t have to listen to it! We can stop listening to Satan and start listening to Jesus. I known that it seems hard, impossible at times even, and it is! But still do able. The group Old Dominion has a new song out called Some People Do , and it is about people changing. And how yes a lot of people don’t change but some of us do. It was such a sweet song to hear because we do live in a society where we are told the people can’t change and sadly that is because a lot of people don’t change. But I am living proof that people can change. And if you really want to you can change too. A more abundant life awaits us when we listen to Jesus.

But in our time something new has been added. What Moses and the prophets witnessed to all those years has happened. The God-setting-things-right that we read about has become Jesus-setting-things-right for us. And not only for us, but for everyone who believes in him. For there is no difference between us and them in this. Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ.

This verse is so fitting for today. Today is my wedding anniversary. You might think this is a weird verse for a day like today , but not I. When you have come from where I have been, you see things a bit differently. When you have a relationship that started out in such a shameful and sinful manner and have seen Gods grace poured out on you, you view things differently. When you have experienced Gods mercy and have felt his redemptive powers wash over you, you view things differently. When you look back on where you were 4 years ago and know you ( and your spouse) have grown & changed because of the love of Jesus, you view things differently.

So yes, today on my wedding anniversary, i view a verse about God’s grace as fitting for my self, for my husband and for my marriage. I am so greatful for God’s grace, mercy, and love.

And Man-happy anniversary! I’m so thankful God brought us from that place, that he has changed us, and blessed us with this life and this love. Most people in this world dont get the 2nd chance like we did and I will forever be greatful for God’s redemptive powers. I love you honey, thanks for working so hard to provide for our family, thanks for trusting in God thru all the hard times, and thanks for loving me almost as unconditionally as Jesus does. Here’s to us! 😍😙😘😍😙😘

The Good News

Our children and their children will get in on this As the word is passed along from parent to child. Babies not yet conceived will hear the good news— that God does what he says.

This verse definitly fit with my weekend of making sure my kids know the real reason behind Easter . No magical bunny in our house. We really focused on Jesus dying on the cross and what that meant , we talked about how sad his friends would have been Saturday since he was dead, ( #Babyw didnt get that because he kept saying but he came to life again?!?!?! ) and then again on yesterday being resurrection Sunday. We had a wonderful family filled weekend.

I pray your Easter weekend was as sweet!

Loss brings growth

What a powerful devotion today. How true. But I often forget.

I struggle with my past and my regrets. Things I’ve done and I guess things I’ve lost. This was eye opening for me to read. Perhaps out of my sin, did come something good.

Had I not made mistakes and lost my 1st marriage I truly dont know if i could be the wife I am today.

If I had not experienced the loss of naive-ness ( I dont think that’s a real word but you get my drift 😂) or the hardship of being backed into a corner and feeling like you had no other choice then I don’t know if i would be the mother I am today.

If I had not experience the loss of purity and the hardship that comes from not trusting God. I truly dont know if i would be the believer I am today.

Don’t get me wrong, this won’t solve all my regret and struggel with my past instantly but serves as a good reminder to help me over come.

Oh Lord, i thank you for all my struggles. I thank you that you forgive us of sin even when we made the choice to do it knowingly and willingly. I am thankful you bring growth and change to even the worst of us. Father-help me desire to know you more and to grow even more in you.
